[112 PLATES XVIII-XIXth in-12 or in-8° ON COPPER unless otherwise stated] Small religious vignettes (reproductions of old woodcuts); small frontispieces or plates or some incomplete suites extracted from 19th century illustrated books by Jean Mathias FONTAINE (1791-1853), by FOKKE (1712-1784) etc. 14 proofs by HILDIBRAND (1824-1897) on Chine of old stamps; 6 small miniature prints on Chine contrecollé of Parisian monuments; 6 plates after MOREAU LE JEUNE; 5 small vignettes by MACRET (1751-1783) for Vadé's La Pipe cassée; 13 engravings for The Comic Almanack for 1835, including engraved cover and title; 4 plates of specimens by the Collas process : Louis XII, Marie de Medici and her seals, the Baptism of Clovis, the Foundation of Marseille. Some plates laminated at the corners, some foxing or minor defects to some plates, as is. of a set of about 500 prints of various sizes from the 16th to the 19th century, coming from the Touraine descent of the collection of Jean-Joseph CARLIER (1794-1874), historian and writer, continued by his son Louis CARLIER (1846-1921), journalist close to the Saint-Simonian movement, and his grandson Pierre CARLIER (1877-1923), former Consul General in Usbuk (Turkey). This collection, started and formed mainly in the early and mid-19th century, includes five prints from the MARIETTE collection, initialed and dated on the back in pen and ink by Pierre II MARIETTE (1634-1716). These last ones come most probably from the MARIETTE sale of 1775. Some lots have been joined with the handwritten documents concerning them by Jean-Joseph CARLIER. The description has been as precise as possible, but does not exclude small defects, visible on the photos. The prints are almost all copper engravings, etchings or burins, and unless otherwise stated, are fixed by glue dots on strong 19th century paper and are sold as is. The dimensions are taken at the bowl unless otherwise stated.
