In-8, [4]-430-[2]p & 13 hors-texte engravings (one on chine). Pre-original edition of this text, which occupies pages 7 to 27 and 54 to 69 (April and May issues). This is the beginning of the second episode of the Histoire des Treize. The first had appeared in March in La Revue de Paris, and the end of the second episode, announced in the next issue on p.69, will not appear, as Balzac has fallen out with the magazine's director. The general table also shows Balzac only in the April issue. The full text was published in Etudes de moeurs in April 1834. There is also an article on Le médecin de campagne, which appeared in September 1833 (pp. 232-235). Red half morocco, smooth spine, gilt roulettes, cold fleurons. Usual minor defects, rare foxing.
