An important work for the study of this period, providing a better understanding of the routes taken at the time, particularly by Balzac. Provenance: Anne-Marie Meininger sale (Tajan, March 15, 2007, no. 167). Full red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, plates extensively embossed in gold and cold, large central diamond-shaped plate and wide framing with fleurons at the corners, roulette around the edges of the spine boards, gilt edges, moiré endpapers. Two small cracks at the foot of the spine. We believe this binding is probably the work of René Simier, the King's bookbinder at the time.
