Michel PALACIOS aka PAELLA CHIMICOS (born 1962). Mirror. Acrylic-painted mirror dated 1993. 73 x 54 cm. Note: Paëlla CHIMICOS adopted his pseudonym (an anagram of his first and last names) in 1985, when he joined the Frigos artists' collective. His work, part of the figuration libre movement, initially took the form of multiples: leaflets and, above all, silk-screened posters stuck up in the streets. Paella is a poster artist, which he prefers to call an "urban activist". What he likes is "the free, social and political expression of posters", which fits in with his use of silkscreen printing and allows the public to react. Posters provoke, challenge and go beyond aesthetics.
