Jacques DEVAUZE (18th century). - Lot 5
Jacques DEVAUZE (18th century). Vue de la Ville de Tours telle qu'elle se voit de chez les Révérands Pères Capucins. Large pen, graphite and wash drawing featuring a captioned panoramic view of the city of Tours in 1749, dedicated to Louise Henriette Gabrielle Marie de Bourbon Condé de Vermandois, Princess of the Blood, Abbess of the Royal Abbey of Beaumont-lès-Tours. 61 x 93 cm. (paper and ink wear, missing parts and tears, as is). Note: This drawing belongs to a new genre of urban iconography that developed in the 18th century. Although the line is somewhat naive, the precision of the elements depicted makes it a first-rate documentary source. Only three copies of this view are known to exist: Société Archéologique de Touraine (watercolored and dated 1753), Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tours (unfinished) and one presented at public auction in Tours on 09/30/2023.
