France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Troop or non-commissioned officer kepi scarf of the 8th Bataillon de Chasseur à Pied, circa 1900. Carcass in hemp canvas, covered with dark blue woolen cloth and daffodil cords, cut-out daffodil "8" on background cloth. Black leather double-slider chinstrap held in place by small white metal buttons stamped with the corps de chasse. Black leather visor edged with black leather piping. Black waterproof canvas inner cap, owner's initials embroidered in the bottom of the cap, sewn-in fabric label "FAUCHEUX Costumier ANGERS", black leather sweatband. Complete. Worn. (Wear and accidents from use, sweatband later, attached and glued earlier, chinstrap with modern slide, Fairly good condition).
