Butterfield-type engraved brass rectangular pocket sundial with cut sides, chased with four hour divisions, with pivoting, height-adjustable gnomon decorated with bird and compass. The reverse side bears the names and latitudes of twenty-four cities in France and Europe. Signed N. BION in Paris for Nicolas BION (1656-1733). 18th century. 3 x 7.2 x 6.5 cm. (slight oxidation on the bottom of the compass).
