CAMUSET GEORGES [Ploughman]
Les sonnets du Docteur
Dijon, 1926, Editions du Raisin, edited by Maurice Darantière, in-8 paperback, lined covers, 76pp. Preface by Charles Monselet. Edition of 305 copies, this is one of 280 copies on van Gelder cream vellum paper, including a suite of four etchings by Jean-Emile Laboureur in sanguine. Carteret IV-87 "Edition recherchée et cotée". Dr. Georges Camuset, an ophthalmologist from Lons-le-Saunier who had settled in Dijon, published his Sonnets in 1884. They quickly became a classic of medical and gay literature, and have been reprinted many times. This edition, illustrated by Laboureur, is undoubtedly one of the most elegant. "The etchings are excellent. They belong to the glorious burins of which Camuset speaks in his last sonnet", the publisher wrote to the artist. Laboureur II-326.
