[Printing proofs] Hervé-Bazin, Vipère au poing. - Lot 400
[Printing proofs] Hervé-Bazin, Vipère au poing. Second proofs of his famous novel published in 1948. They are already in the form of notebooks, stapled together in groups of 4 or 5, and have very few corrections (we've spotted only one, typographical). The set is presented in a cardboard sheet serving as a cover, on which Hervé Bazin has inscribed: "Parait le 1er juin 48 / Vipère au poing / roman (grasset) / Nic [Nic is crossed out] Hervé Bazin / épreuves 2". There's an interesting detail here: we can see a trace of his first pseudonym, Nic H. Bazin, which he had used in the days of his magazine La Coquille. The manuscript of Vipère au poing has disappeared. Proofs of a 1969 edition with only a few typographical corrections (perhaps by another hand) are enclosed. A very fine document on one of the most important novels of the 20th century.
