Renowned dictionary that served as the basis for the first dictionary of the Academia Real das Sciencias de Lisboa in 1793. With this impressive work, the author illustrates the schooling movement that Portugal was undergoing at the time. Right from the title, the dictionary is dedicated to the use of schools. This copy includes an ex-libris from Just Paquet, as well as a donation letter (in French) for the work, which was clearly intended as a guide to commercial vocabulary.
Contemporary half-brown calf, 5-ribbed spine, gilt title, all edges red, white endpapers, brown marbled boards, ruled copy.
Joints cracked, missing upper and lower headbands, edges and corners worn, some foxing.
