[abbé de La Bastie] Important collection of memoirs. - Lot 829
[abbé de La Bastie] Important collection of memoirs. In folio, various publishers, 1740-1744. Volume containing numerous memoirs (approx. 27) on the subject of religion, often signed by the general agents of the French clergy. Among the places cited: Cluny, Macon, Oléron, Citeaux, Nantes, Saint Jean d'Aix, Caen, Bellosanne, Saint Pierre de Mortagne, Cheuvreuse, etc. Impressions by Pierre(-Guillaume) Simon and Claude Simon (Paris), Antoine Marie (Nantes), widow Knapen (Paris), P.G. Le Mercier (Paris), Pierre Prault (Paris), etc. This set seems to have come from Louis-Henri Fogasses de La Bastie, l'abbé de la Bastie (1714-1754), agent general of the French clergy. This information is provided by his name inscribed in ink at the head of one of the texts. It should be noted that these texts only concern his period of activity as agent (he was agent from 1740 to 1745, but probably abandoned his activity after his appointment as abbot of N-D de Cormeilles in September 1744). Full Jansenist basane, lacks at the foot of the boards, upper headband frayed, two cracks at the ends of the jaws, angular wetness throughout. Some handwritten corrections. Rare set.
