[Napoléon Bonaparte] Brevet d'honneur for a sailor who serve - Lot 1002
[Napoléon Bonaparte] Brevet d'honneur for a sailor who served on the "Desaix" (period copy, the original having probably been lost by the recipient).
Paris, 11 brumaire an 10 [November 2, 1801], 1p oblong folio.
Entirely handwritten patent, for Servain-Pierre Duhamel, a native of Saint Malo, who bravely repelled a boarding. He was awarded an "honorary boarding axe". The document bears the signatures of Napoleon (secretary), Decrès (Minister of the Navy, secretary), Hugues Maret (autograph) and signatures for registration.
The ink has sometimes been ironed on at a later date (hence the color differences), but without any visible change to the text.
Servain-Pierre Duhamel was a master carpenter.
Soiled document, weakened in the center (folded, tears repaired), laminated on cardboard. The ship Desaix was launched in 1793 under the name of "Tyrannicide", changed its name in 1800 and wrecked shortly after this diploma, in 1802, in Saint Domingue.
A rare souvenir of the Desaix, which only existed for 2 years under this name (and 9 years in all).
