France, First half of the 19th century. Black leather gusseted briefcase stamped and gilded with "M. LEMELIERS LIEUTENANT CRIMINEL A ORLEANS". The flap lined with gilded tan morocco and the interior lined with beige cloth. 33 x 44 cm. (Wear and tear, the first two letters of the criminal lieutenant's name partly legible, the lock key missing, some seams formerly reinforced. Fairly good condition.)
