France, Second Republic (1848-1852). 1848 model composite troop shako, incomplete. Conical cardboard shaft covered with black taupe felt, black patent leather cap and gold passementerie braid. Black patent leather "bourdalou" at the base of the barrel. Flat black patent leather visor, green waxed underside. The inside of the barrel is covered with scarlet embossed paper, and the inner cap is in black leather with seven wolf teeth. Bare shako, with no attributes, chinstrap, pompom, etc., in uncovered condition. (Wear and tear, deformations, dusty, needs cleaning, as is).
