France, Second Empire (1852-1870) Cuirassier de Cuirassier troupe de la Garde Impériale model 1854, made by Manufacture de Klingenthal, Coulaux & Cie, same size and same serial number. Steel breastplate and backplate with a small stained gray patina and minor surface oxidation with rust bloom in places. They are stamped on the outer edges "5" and a previous crossed-out serial number "384". Leather suspenders with intertwined figure-of-eight rings, steel buttonhole plates and leather ties. Black leather belt, damaged and missing. The interiors are oxidized with rust bloom. The breastplate and backplate are marked "Manufacture de Klingenthal, Coulaux & Cie 1854" and "3e T. 2ème L. N°487". (Wear and accidents, the leather straps are damaged and missing, the two small rivets on the top of the breastplate shoulder pads are missing, need cleaning. Fairly good condition). Cuirasse troupe de cuirassier modèle 1855/72 by Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault, not to the same no. Steel breastplate and backplate with brass rivets. Model shoulder pads in black cowhide with two brass chains, brass buttonhole plates with leather pulls. The breastplate is marked, partly illegible (oxidation), "Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault Septembre 1873, .....". The backplate is marked, partly illegible (oxidation), "Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault Août 1875, .....". The black leather belt is missing. (Wear and accidents from use, the breastplate with gray patina, previously cleaned, the backplate superficially oxidized, the shoulder pad leathers tired, the fastenings of the two brass breastplate buttons have been modified, to be cleaned. As is. 44 x 40 cm. Oxidized rust flower. Interior markings "Manufacture Klingenthal Coulaux & Cie Octobre 1856" and "1e L 2è T n°870". It is numbered "870". (Wear from use, fairly good condition).
