SÈVRES, 19th century. - Lot 171

Diameter: 12.6 cm. - two teapots with lids. H. 13 cm. - one milk jug. H. 12.5 cm. - one covered coffee pot. H. 19 cm. Dates marked on the reverse: dates between 1868 and 1880. Faded gilding marks. (a chip on the heel of one cup and the spout of the milk jug, one cup with a small gap in the reticule, one cup with a small piece of reticule reglued). Note: The Chinese reticulated lunch is one of the most daring creations of the Manufacture de Sèvres under the direction of Brongniart, director of the Manufacture since 1800. The lunch was designed by Hyacynthe Régnier, the Manufacture's sculptor-modeller. Each piece is double-walled, with a solid interior and a mesh-cut exterior. Handle and spout are bamboo-shaped. Lunch was always made after Brongniard, but the shape of the mesh was simplified around 1900. The model presented here is based on the first version, with a very complex reticulated pattern.
