France, 2nd Republic (1848 -1852) - 2nd Empire (1852-1870). - Lot 130
France, 2nd Republic (1848 -1852) - 2nd Empire (1852-1870). Officer's fancy dagger from the Coulaux factory in Klingenthal. Crosspiece with two rolled quillons and cast brass pommel. Molded ebony handle. White blade with two gutters and flat back. Manufacturer's markings on the heel of the blade: "Coulaux a & c" on one side and "Klingenthal" on the other (the markings correspond to production circa 1845-1850). Varnished black leather scabbard with two brass fittings, the cap with shield button. 51 cm (Blade 36.5 cm). (Wear and age patina. Good condition). Note: Until now, these daggers were attributed and described as daggers of officers of the naval administration, 2nd Empire period. Recent research on these daggers, carried out jointly with Marc ADOLF, President of the Association de Sauvegarde du Klingenthal and Curator of the Musée de la Manufacture de Klingenthal, does not allow us to confirm that these daggers were attributed to a particular corps, such as the administrative services of the navy. 51.3 cm (38.5 cm).
