SICILY, VERUS by ABHIKA, 20th century Earthenware cachepot forming a woman's head, with a large cream turban topped by a wreath of leaves and balls. Signed. Italian work. H. 50 cm. These heads are based on a 12th-century Palermo legend in which a young woman falls in love with a Moorish king and marries him despite her parents' disapproval. She discovers that he is already married, and in a rage cuts off his head.
