SICILY, VERUS by ABHIKA, 20th century Earthenware cache-pot featuring a woman's head, with long hair, wearing a crown made of braided lemons. Signed. Italian work. H. 45 cm. These heads are based on a 12th-century Palermo legend in which a young woman falls in love with a Moorish king and marries him despite her parents' disapproval. She discovers that he is already married, and in a rage cuts off his head.
