Set of nine black-and-white silver photographic prints from - Lot 205
Set of nine black-and-white silver photographic prints from Gilles CHAUVELIN's studio, including three views of La plus Belle and six views of Corps enseignant pour une école de tueur with Big Brother, Séraphine-Chérubin and Séraphin le néophyte. 29 x 18.5 cm. Note: This series of photos situates Max Ernst's work in 1967 in Huismes, and in particular his collaboration with the studio of his neighbor and friend Gilles Chauvelin. His surrealist universe is reflected in his sculptural works in plaster and Vilhonneur hard rock. Pictured here is one of nine monumental sculptures created by the artist, entitled La plus belle. This sculpture echoes the lines of the Cycladic sculptures that were on display in international collections at the time, and which Max Ernst undoubtedly contemplated. The original work was sold by Christie's on November 28, 2012. Also featured are the figures from the set entitled "Corps enseignant pour une école de tueurs", with the Orwellian figure of "Big Brother" and the facetious angels designated as "Séraphine-Chérubin" and "Séraphin le néophyte".
