ANEHO, Togo. - Lot 130
ANEHO, Togo.
Timeworn cotton headdress with colored appliqués from the LAWSON lineage,
This traditional cotton headgear is said to have been a gift from King Lawson to Médecin Général Cheveneveau during a visit to Togo.
A label bearing the stamp of Médecin General Roger Cheneveau lends credence to this hypothesis, as it reads "Aného Togo 1932, couvre-chef du roi LAWSON".
29.5x27 cm.
Note: In his book "Les bâtisseurs de Royaumes", Jean Martet describes Roger Cheveneau's stay in Aného.
Provenance: family estate of Physician General Roger Charles CHENEVEAU (1897-1982). In 1919, he was admitted to the Ecole principale du service de santé de la marine et des colonies in Bordeaux, and appointed médecin aide major de 1ere classe in January 1923. He served in Equatorial Africa, and was promoted to Physician Major in 1933.
