France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Superb 1816-type infantry artillery saber, “PRIX DE CIBLE.” One-piece cast brass mount with eighteen rows of scales and no rivets. The pommel is adorned with the cockerel of the July Monarchy, its right leg resting on a globe, inscribed within a medallion on a sandblasted background on each side. Straight crossguard with a sandblasted background and no decoration, adorned with a screwed-on brass plate marked “PRIX DE CIBLE.” The top of the crossguard is marked “7me Cie” on the left side and “1848” on the right side. Natural leather scabbard present. 1831-model sword blade with a light gray patina, double-edged in a carp-tongue shape with a triangular flat at the heel, without manufacturer’s mark or hallmark. Blackened leather scabbard featuring off-center back stitching on one side within one of the rounded sections and two brass fittings: the chape with a trigger guard, and the tip stamped with a “B” under a star within a shield and “11” within a circle. 65 cm (49 cm). (Signs of wear and minor cosmetic imperfections; a small crack at one end on the back of the crossguard—uncommon. In good condition.)
