France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). - Lot 218
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). A superb Model 1831 saber for a noncommissioned officer or officer of the National Guard, privately made, without a scabbard. Cast brass hilt with twenty-one flutes; the crossguard ends in quillons adorned with a single disc. Beautiful blade with a mottled gray patina, double-edged with a central ridge, etched with foliage friezes and inscribed with “GARDE NATIONNALE” on one side and “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” on the other. On the heel, there is a manufacturer’s mark within an oval, partially legible: “...FRERE TOULOUSE.” 60 cm (blade 46 cm). (Signs of wear and age. Fairly good condition.)
