Figurative Cork Press, CROCODILE, bronze version A rare version. A bronze cork press with a golden patina, designed to rest on a table, depicting a crocodile. Accommodates 4 sizes of corks. France. Late 19th century. Cork presses—used in pharmacies or laboratories. These objects were used to compress corks that had been previously scalded in order to reduce their size and facilitate their insertion into bottles. They were particularly indispensable in pharmacies and were intended to impress, both by their weight and by their mechanism or decoration. With a few exceptions, the items up for auction are illustrated and documented in the masterful work by BULL & PARADI, *Wine Antiques & Collectibles*, an internationally recognized reference.
