History
Faced with the enormous demand generated by World War I, the Russian arsenals in Tula, Izhevsk, and Sestroretsk were no longer sufficient to meet the demand, so the imperial government ordered more than 1.8 million Mosin-Nagant rifles from the American companies Remington and New England Westinghouse between 1915 and 1917. The firearms produced by Westinghouse, such as this example, were inspected by Russian officials and marked with imperial hallmarks, notably the famous Tula hammer.
