History
This rifle was the first Russian service weapon designed from the outset for a metallic cartridge. Due to a lack of sufficient industrial capacity in Russia, an order for only 30,000 rifles was placed with the Colt factory in Hartford. The first rifle was completed in December 1868, and the main deliveries took place from March 1869 to May 1870.
