A large clock made of patinated and gilded bronze and red gr - Lot 252
A large clock made of patinated and gilded bronze and red griotte marble, depicting a woman reading while standing, leaning on a shaft that houses a marble dial with Roman numeral hour markers applied to the surface. Richly decorated with stylized godrons, ribbon bows holding medallions with classical profiles, laurel wreaths, and volutes. The oval base features stepped and chamfered edges accented by ribbon-like moldings and an ovoid frieze, centered on a radiating mascaron. The clock rests on four spindle-shaped feet at the corners and two feet with leaf-decorated volutes at the ends. The movement is signed “LEMERLE CHARPENTIER, Bronze Maker in Paris” and numbered 302. Includes key, hallmark, and balance wheel. Napoleon III period. 69 x 59 x 24 cm. (The numerals V and VII on the hour markers are missing; there is a small crack in the marble.)
