Enlarged second edition of this very important book, considered the founding work of the self-cooking process and of the machine later described in the encyclopedia as the "digester". After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, Denis Papin fled France for Germany and continued to publish his discoveries in German journals; he died in Magdeburg in 1715, virtually forgotten by all. In 1851, his hometown of Blois erected a statue to him. Copy as described by Vicaire [652-653].
