Photo dedicated by Ethery PAGAVA, Danseuse Étoile internatio - Lot 23
Photo dedicated by Ethery PAGAVA, Danseuse Étoile internationale, and addressed to Madame Lioubov EGOROVA, handwritten dedication on the back, photo by Erio Piccagliani, 1952. 18 x 12.8 cm. This card addressed by Danseuse Étoile Ethery PAGAVA in 1952 to her teacher Madame Egorova is steeped in history. E. She was the master. She was a master, yes, but a very loving master, radiating warmth and generosity (...) I started dancing at the age of five, and I remember that at six, I was already on stage with Les Ballets de la Jeunesse performing at the Salle Pleyel - Georges Skibine, Youri Algaroff were part of it. Madame Egorova was in charge of the choreography. In any case, at the age of eleven I was dancing as a soloist in Roland Petit's Ballets, and at fifteen I was appearing as a étoile in Les Ballets du Marquis de Cuevas. But I always came back to work with Madame Egorova, and did so for a total of twenty-five years, because I considered - and still consider - that Madame Egorova was the essence of dance." (Interview with Ethéry Pagava, by Société Auguste Vestris, 2010) Lioubov EGOROVA (Saint Petersburg 1880- Paris 1972), Danseuse Etoile of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, taught ballet in Paris from 1923 to 1968 and trained numerous dancers: from Serge Lifar to Roland Petit, from Yvette Chauviré to Claude Bessy, via Maurice Béjart, Solange Schwarz, Wilfride Piollet...
